With Scott Bayliss, Carroll, IA. I think “Our House” by CSN&Y was in the set.
After time in Iowa City and Douglas Roberson’s musical influence, I spent a year in The Rocky Mountains, working on my chops and trying to define an act.
The Swing Crew, an acoustic duo, popular at Keystone Resort were kind enough to include me in a few shows.
I auditioned live, in person for Rebecca/Vine Tavern staff on a Tuesday afternoon in the fall of 1985 and did my first gig there that Saturday.
Pete Raine was the big draw, great player/performer as well as Rich Webster. I was thrilled to be part of the rotation.
Everything took off from there!
If only my retired Alvarez guitar could talk!
On the morning of May 26, 1989, I moved my belongings to 1118 W. Wrightwood, took the red line up to Addison, 1:20pm Reds vs. Cubs, 10pm first Chicago performance at Harrington’s Pub, late night dive bar & breakfast until 5am!
In a 24 hour period, Chicago was now home!
I performed at Harrington’s every Thursday for the next 5 years as well as other clubs, Avalon, Elbo Room, Otis’, Schubas, Beat Kitchen, etc…
I began to write material and collaborate with some of Chicago’s top musicians.
In the back half of the 90’s, I teamed up with fellow musicians, Al Wooldridge, Mark Swainbank & Mike McLaughlin to form the power pop band, Swinger. Performing The Map Room, Double Door & several Pop festivals around the country. Releasing two fine albums, “Half Day Road” in 1996 & “The Walk” in 1999. Many memorable moments! https://music.youtube.com/playlist...
Frighteningly memorable melodies and precise motifs that are terrifyingly catchy! Great sessions with Rich Stitzel/Drums, Chris Clemente/Bass & Paul Mutzabaugh/Keyboards. Rob did all the lead guitar parts although not his forte.
Recorded with members of the Dangtrippers, friends Mark Bruggeman/Drums, Pat White/Lead Guitar, Piano, Doug Roberson/Bass, Lead Guitar, Mandolin. These were very special sessions. Brad Jones/Alex The Great did the final mixes, giving these recordings their due.
Performing post Cubs, Saturday afternoon, 3 hour shows since 2018 at Merkle's Bar & Grill in Wrigleyville. Mostly covers of Kinks, Beatles, Jackson Browne, etc... with original songs from my catelogue. Russ Bishop, Jeff Lindeman and John Keliher have been good partners. These shows are a joy!
Introducing “Foster Beach”, the new, all original, 10 song album release by Rob Schulz, featuring Chicago musicians, Klem Hayes/Bass, Nick Kitsos/Drums, Paul Mutzabaugh/Keyboards, Mike Pinto/Lead Guitar & Annie Schulz/Backing Vocals.
